History/Current Info

On March 28th of this year, I suffered a miscarriage, and, within a matter of days, was diagnosed with cancer. I have low grade follicular lymphoma (Non-Hodgkins). Talk about your double whammies! I am told if you have to have cancer, this is the kind to have. Of course, with all things being said and done, I'd rather not have it at all. Feel free to research the disease, but my family and I are trying not to focus on statistics or probabilities. We are going to beat this!

I am creating this blog to keep family and friends updated on my current status.

I have met with the oncologist, finally, and have all of the results of my tests. Dr. D informed us that nothing in the PET scan surprised him. The cancer is spread throughout my lymph system, but is not in any other major organs (such as liver, spleen, lungs, etc.). However, there are small amounts of cancerous cells in my bone marrow. This puts me in Stage IV, but Dr. D said everything is relative. Bone marrow involvement is Stage IV, but he's seen patients who have cancer cells packed into their marrow. AND Stage IV is still treatable. So, no good news, but no really bad news, either.

I will soon be heading to Birmingham for a second opinion. If there is no major disagreement with that doc, I'll head home to start chemo. Treatment is six sessions of CVP, one every three weeks. At that point, I'll get another PET scan. Based on those findings, we either call it good, or have two more sessions of chemo.

So, that's it for now. I will post new info as it becomes available! Please, pray for us!
