Dr. Visit
Even though Dr. D's office had phoned in the results from my PET scan, I still needed to drop in for a little visit. I went, yesterday, and it went remarkably well.
I didn't post this in my blog, but a few visits back, my port didn't work. They could push the fluids through, but couldn't retrieve blood through it. So, they had to draw blood through my arm. Yesterday, it worked like a charm! One more worry gone.
When I met with Dr. D, he said that my PET was clear, which we already knew, but he also said that the "activity" he saw at the last appointment was gone. He mentioned that there was some activity in my "dental" area, even asked if I had recently been to the dentist. He said there were absolutely no concerns about that at all. My wisdom teeth are coming in, so I'm guessing that is what is going on. OR, I was really worried this time, so I wouldn't be surprised if I was grinding my teeth.
Now, I am due to begin my "maintenance" treatments. At my last chemo, Dr. D discussed this with us, and I really didn't care for the way he explained it. He told us that the antibody treatments had been shown to prolong remission, but not affect survival rates. This was a bit of a downer. HOWEVER, when I went in yesterday, he brought it up, again. (He hadn't made notes in my file last time.) When he explained it this time, he said that the antibody treatment was proving to prolong remission, but that no study had been done to see if there was any difference between using these maintenance treatments or just waiting to see if there was a relapse, and treating the cancer with the antibody at that point. I much prefer this explanation. He said that there is no down side to doing the maintenance (other than convenience because I go once a week for four weeks, four hours each time), and that insurance recognize this as acceptable treatment so it is covered. I'm up for a little inconvenience!
I have a new obsession. DD#1 got something called a Knifty Knitter for Christmas. Has anyone seen these? I had a knitting spool when I was little that my Omi gave to me. The knitting spool is a way to knit a little chord, without using needles. A Knifty Knitter is the same thing on a much larger scale. I was kind of interested in it, and bought myself a set (4 looms) when I caught them on sale. I am so addicted! I have made hats, hats, and more hats. (That's the easiest thing to make on them.) I have made baby booties, and, most recently a scarf! I'll try to post some pictures, sometime. Definitely something to keep me entertained during those four hour treatments I have coming up!
And, one more bit of good news...DH's best friend is coming home from Iraq in two weeks! Please, pray for his safe return!
Love, Best Wishes, and God's Blessings to all of you!
